Bishops is a technology rich school. This technology has valuable educational potential and we are determined to harness it creatively and effectively. Bishops offers state-of-the-art ICT facilities to aid staff in teaching the subject matter of the curriculum and to encourage learners to development 21st century skills.
Using technology in addition to traditional classroom practice encourages active thinking, collaboration and communication. It enhances learning and enables exciting and innovative teaching. Departments use technology to greater or lesser extents, but the goal is always to add value.
Bishops has an extensive network consisting of both physical cable and wireless access points.
Our Computer Centre is equipped with 27-networked Intel i5 multimedia computers, currently running Windows 10. The network extends to a further 27 computers in academic teaching venues, 6 in the staff workroom and 7 administration computers in Stanmore House. All classes have access to the computer centre for research and projects.
All teaching venues are fitted with wireless access points to facilitate the use of mobile technology and all classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and data projectors.
The Design Technology Lab has 9-networked computers for running a Robotics programme and various design software packages.
The Prep intranet is dynamic learning management site, providing a webpage for each subject. Subject sites provide an overview of the curriculum as well as current classwork, projects, resources and research sites. The intranet is accessible to boys on and off campus.
Software and Licensing
Bishops is a Microsoft Office 365 School.
Each year we purchase SLA’s (School License Agreement) for top educational packages across a variety of subjects. These licenses allow learners to connect to valuable resources on and off campus - from an iPad, laptop or PC.
Prep boys make use of the following packages to produce and administer content:
Microsoft Office 365 (Grades 3 – 7)
My CyberWall (Grades 4 – 7)
Reading Eggs (Grades 3 – 5)
Mathletics (Grades 3 – 7)
PurpleMash (Grades 2 – 3)
Bishops Prep launched a One-to-One iPad Programme in 2016. This programme is about learning, not technology, and it has enabled teaching and learning to occur in ways that were simply not possible before.
As an educational tool, the iPad can enhance and render learning more meaningful and authentic. It assists in teaching boys how to select, interpret, compare and work with the wealth of information that exists in so many different forms.
Bishops also strives to teach our pupils digital integrity, the same values that apply to any life situation, but are so often forgotten in the online world.
Grade 4 – 7 learners bring iPads to school each day. This does not mean iPads feature in every lesson, every day. It does mean that iPads are used when appropriate and when they can add value. Every precaution is taken to ensure Internet safety.
Grade 2 pupils are introduced to computers in the winter terms. Grade 3 pupils have a designated computer lesson each week. The main emphasis is upon skills development as required by the curriculum. The computer is used as a learning tool and as a medium for creative expression.
