| THE
HOUSE OF WINDJAMMER by V A Richardson. Published by Bloomsbury Pub.
Pic London 2003.
It was good to read an historical novel
again. This book is easy to read, full of action and adventure and could
easily be updated to modern times. It is the story of a wealthy Dutch merchant
family who face a series of serious misfortunes – a wrecked fleet, loss of
money earners, jealous rivals, foreclosure by financial institutions and
untimely death of loved ones. Adam, the son and heir, learns fast about
the hard facts of life, who are friends or enemies. There is also an
interesting side theme about the early tulip trade in Holland. |
