Dear Parents

The Woodlands opening last Friday was a wonderful event with 1 250 boys present (Grade 1-12), 150 staff and numerous guests and ODs.  Guy Pearson and Mike Bosman, the Chairman of Council, in their remarks sketched the history of the site from its decades as a cemetery, subsequently de-consecrated and bought by the school and turned into a rugby field and with the growth and development of hockey, the building of an astro sixteen years ago.  Thanks were also paid to all those over the past decades whose vision and work had brought the school to a place where it could need and produce such a facility.  The Head Boys of the College and Prep read and prayed and held the ribbon which Raymond Ackerman, Chairman of the OD Union, cut to formally open the facility.

Watching the inaugural game on the Friday between the College 1st team and SACS was an exceptional experience a fast, riveting game that ended in a draw but also so privileged to watch it from the new stand with the spectacular view it affords.

A very poignant scene in the ceremony was to see the Matrics sitting with our Grade 1 and 2 boys; they had been to fetch them at the Pre-Prep much to the excitement of the little ones.  Those with a few months left of Bishops together with those with 10 or 11 years still to go something akin to quite a symbolic handover.

On a completely different note, you will be aware that regulations for children (particularly unaccompanied) on international travel have changed.  The new regulations will be implemented from 1 June this year.  Please click on this link to view the regulations.

Many of our boys are on the Eikestad Exchange this weekend in Stellenbosch and will be involved in a host of activities: music, chess, rugby, tennis and hockey.  We wish them a great experience.

Kind regards

GREG BROWN
