Dear Parents

Many of you will have heard that the College Head Boy, Christian Rohrer, was diagnosed with an osteo sarcoma two weeks ago in his leg.  While the prognosis for recovery is good, he has to undergo and has started extensive chemotherapy.  Please keep Christian and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this process. We are going to use this Friday’s Civvies Day to raise awareness and do something to support cancer treatment for young people.  Please see the details below.

Friday, 17 February is also the start of our first mid-term weekend break in many years.  The idea is to provide a breather – for everyone – in the middle of a term. As much as we all enjoy sport, art club, camps, etc over the weekends, it will be good for everyone to have a complete break.  So there will be no extra-murals at all on Friday afternoon or Saturday.  Hopefully you will enjoy this ‘time off’.  We hope to do this once a term in terms 1-3 this year.

Kind regards

GREG BROWN
HEADMASTER

Civvies Day

Friday, 17 February, is civvies day.  In support of Christian Rohrer, College Headboy, who is undergoing chemotherapy, we plan to raise funds and soft toys for the Red Cross Paediatric Oncology Unit.
We request that all boys and staff wear a splash of yellow (the colour that represents osteo sarcoma) and that Grade 3s bring a good second-hand fluffy toy and the Grade 4 to 7s bring R10.

Sandwiches for Athwood Primary

The principal, staff and pupils of Athwood were extremely grateful for the sandwiches received last Tuesday.  Many more sandwiches are needed to fill the many empty tummies at the school.  In an effort to increase our contributions, we are inviting parents and boys who come to school early on Tuesdays to come to the area outside the hall to help make sandwiches.  If you are willing to donate a loaf of bread or jar of peanut butter, please send to school on Monday so that the PA can cater accordingly.

Athwood need 600 sandwiches. Pre-Prep contribute 200 and Prep will aim to make 400.
Butter/margarine and peanut butter is ideal.
