FRIDAY 19 May 2017

Dear Parents

PRAYER STATION WEEK

If you popped in to the Jagger Annexe this week you would have seen it housing a number of prayer stations. Each class spent their Divinity lesson going from station to station and responding to the particular theme of each - I was so impressed by the boys’ involvement. Two of the stations asked the boys to write notes of appreciation to any member of staff, placing it on the wall next to the staff member’s name, and the other asking them to reflect on anything in particular for which they felt they needed God’s help. In all cases I was so impressed by their thoughtfulness and kindness as well as a measure of sensible reflection. It certainly was inspiring as well as gratifying to see.

FIDGET SPINNERS

We have had quite a few reports of boys selling fidget spinners at school as well as other items recently. While it is very entrepreneurial in one way, without school control it very easily leads to problems with boys having too much cash at school and misunderstandings between boys, particularly the different age groups. The Grade 7s do have a Market Day each year as part of a Small Business Project and from time to time we have a particular charity drive that might involve sales. The boys are not allowed to sell anything at school without permission and I reminded them of this at assembly this morning.

The fidget spinner and cube craze has also suddenly reached “epidemic” proportions so we have decided to ban them from school. They are great fun but the boys are really struggling to focus on anything else at school with these around so the boys have been told to keep them at home.

Kind regards

TAKE Note

Squash

We are now including a squash challenge session on Wednesday mornings before school from 6:30am until 7:10am where boys can challenge other boys who play on different days or cannot get to an afternoon practice due to other sporting commitments. This is to give everyone an opportunity to challenge for the league matches on Friday afternoons.

Lost Property

Please make sure that all your son's possessions, including IPads, are clearly marked.

Winners of the "Rick" Bear

Congratulations to the U10C rugby team who were awarded the "Rick" Bear. Richard (Rick) Skeeles was a legendary rugby coach, teacher and deputy headmaster at Bishops Prep. He loved rugby. He loved the team spirit that it engendered in boys, he loved the skill and pace with which we try and get our Bishops boys to play. Above all he loved boys and teams that gave of their best against bigger and faster teams. Well done U10C you would have made him proud!

During the Divinity period this week, classes went through the prayer stations covering the “I am….” Statements of Jesus. Thank you to the parents involved for the time and effort they put into the stations. More photos of the prayer stations are available here
