FRIDAY 22 September 2017

Dear Parents

As you know there has been a very festive vibe at school this week with the Staff Cabaret. Thank you for supporting this and being so complimentary about our efforts! Many parents assisted with costumes, donating items, choreography and make-up as well. Thank you. I am sorry that our Tuesday performance for the boys went over the final bell. We decided to try to get through most of the acts for the boys but I know it was inconvenient and disruptive for some families.

Several adults attended that performance with the boys: itinerant teachers, peripatetic music teachers and a few family members of the cast. We were so impressed by the boys’ behaviour throughout – they were responsible, engaging and appropriate in what was often a hilarious and bizarre offering; their men teachers in tutus and the like. Many the visitors commented on what a wonderful sense they got of the boys and school: happy, warm, fun and an open, respectful rapport with their teachers. This was wonderful feedback to receive. We can do what we like but the effectiveness of our education and parenting is really measured by those occasions when we are not around and fully in control.

I was also pleased to receive another compliment a few days before about our boys’ manners. In a meeting with the Parents’ Association Committee, parents commented on how impressed they were by our boys’ manners at the rugby tuckshops this term: addressing them in a friendly and respectful fashion, “please” and “thank you”. That’s what we all want to hear and we do need to celebrate these good moments when our boys do themselves and us proud, a foretaste of the adults we hope they will be.

We wish all our Jewish families a Happy New Year as they have celebrated Rosh Hashanah this week.

Enjoy the long weekend and Heritage Day.

Best wishes

This competition is held at the Hugo Lambrecht Music Centre. Our boys will perform in Round 1 and Round 2 which are compulsory. These Rounds will take place next week Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. After this, twenty performers will be chosen for the semi-finals. This takes place on Thursday, 28 September. Inter-Schools Chess Tournament

http://prep.bishops.org.za/PrepPost/images/chess.jpg

The Bishops Prep annual chess tournament was held at Bishops last Friday.12 Western Cape schools were invited to participate in the tournament. The final was between Bishops Prep School and Kirstenhof Junior School. At the end of the match both teams had won 3 matches resulting in a draw, which meant that the trophy was shared. The Bishop 2nd team also took part in the tournament and ended a respectable second place in their pool section. Many of their matches were against first teams from other schools, an outstanding achievement by the 2nd team.
