Bishops: Diocesan College - Prep Post
FRIDAY 21 April 2017
Dear Parents

Welcome back to school. I hope that as we go into winter that Cape Town will receive the rain it so desperately needs. In the meantime we are continuing our “one uniform a day” so if your son has sport or Phys Ed on a particular day, he wears the appropriate sportswear for the day.

Winter also brings with it a change in sports which is always exciting for the boys and a good opportunity to practise and develop other skill sets. Next week’s five day long weekend means that fixtures for most sports will only start in the third or fourth week of term. Rugby will kick off with the Skeeles U13 7s Rugby Tournament on Friday afternoon/evening of 5 May at Lutgensvale. It is a wonderful event – not only 7s rugby with seven schools participating, but also a carnival atmosphere with lots of activities for youngsters and supper and refreshments. Do try to attend.

On Wednesday 12 of our Grade 6s leave for London with Mrs Sheard and Mr Mitchell for an exchange with Dulwich Prep School. It’s the first time we are doing this: boys will spend two weeks away from home living with host families, spending days in the school, participating in class and at sports practices and a few days around London with their teachers. Both Bishops and Dulwich are monastic, independent, faith-based schools but there are still differences and so there is a lot to learn and experience. Our staff will also have an opportunity to share best practice with their Dulwich colleagues, teach and observe. We hosted Dulwich in February and they reported it as a great success, so we look forward to a similar experience for our boys and staff.

There will be no newsletter next week but extra-mural arrangements will be on myBishopsLife.

Enjoy the weekend.

Kind regards

Maths Champs

The International Primary Schools Maths Competition is held every year at chosen cities around the world.

Dieter Karlein has been chosen as part of the Cape Town team going to India and Aleksandr Selby has been chosen to go to Hong Kong.

The selection process consisted of two very tough rounds of tests and considering that the two teams only have four members each, this an impressive achievement. Well done to both boys!

Inter-House Cross Country

This event will take place on Wednesday 26 April from 14h30 to15h45. It is a compulsory event for all boys. No other sport practises will take place at this time.

Prep boys are encouraged to watch the College 1st XV vs Stellenberg at 11h30 on Saturday.

Please note that there will be no newsletter next week due to the holidays on Thursday and Friday. All information regarding sport practices and fixtures will be made available on MyBishopsLife and the Prep Website.
Sandwich Donations

Each grade has been allocated a weekly date to make and contribute towards Athwood Primary sandwich making. An email has been sent to all class reps. The roster is below.

You may contribute whole loaves or ready made sandwiches, to be handed in to Kashiefa on a Tuesday morning.

Any questions they can contact Di Davidson direct
