FRIDAY 23 June 2017

Dear Parents

While Cape Town was enduring cold and rain over the last few days (something which we now have to welcome), our Grade 7s were enjoying the sunny skies and temperatures of 26° and above on their 9 day Kwazulu-Natal Tour. They had a marvellous time playing sport, chess and giving musical performances, visiting historical battle sites, cultural displays and two days at an adventure camp. It is a great experience in developing independence, not only in organising themselves, but also spending 9 days without the normal support and structures provided by home. Being hosted ty the different families unknown to them over four nights can be intimidating. When they go off, we always hope that they will live out what you and we have taught them and expect of them. And the feedback was very good. Host parents and staff were very complimentary, not only commenting on their good manners, but also on their friendliness and engagement with host families, including younger brothers and sisters. Ultimately, this is what we want to hear – that our boys are a pleasure to be with. They don’t always get it right particularly in their familiar surroundings. It is part of a 20-year plan really, but totally worth it. When I ask prospective parents who mention that they are impressed by the young(-ish) Bishops men who work with them, what it is that they enjoy about them, the answer is nearly always the same: noticeably good manners and engagement, confidence, strong work ethic, responsible risk taking and initiative. It begins here.

We wish all our Muslim families a very happy and blessed Eid with their families and friends on Monday.

Kind regards

Thank you to the moms who have handed in knitted squares or whole blankets. We plan to keep knitting throughout the holidays and the project will resume next term. If you would like to knit squares, we recommend you cast on 30 stitches and use double knit wool.

Hotel Boarding

The Prep Boarding House is available, as a "Hotel" facility for your sons should you require it on a temporary basis while you are away travelling. The cost is R390 a night, which includes 3 meals a day. Please contact Erica Leppan on for further details.

The Rohan Bloom Foundation

Please support this worthwhile event if you are able to.
