FRIDAY 26 May 2017

Dear Parents

Sadly, the schoolís payroll administrator, Mandy Spreeth, died very suddenly yesterday morning. Mandy managed a huge responsibility for the whole campus enormously efficiently and effectively. Please hold her husband, family, friends and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers.

We wish all our Muslim families well during the Holy Month of Ramadaan. Ramadaan Mubarak.

Over the past decade the idea of out-sourcing our Sports Tuckshop has been proposed from time to time. Thankfully, year after year, parents have rallied and said they can manage the Saturday tuckshops. I have always been so relieved because, even though we are all very busy, we have to keep the spirit of volunteerism alive. While for some parents it is half an hour on a Saturday morning, for others it might be opening and setting up at 06h00, planning and ordering. As a community and as staff, we do appreciate this input, small or large. But it also sends a great message to our children, not only of involvement, but also of giving to serve the community, where the giving itself is the reward.

The same was asked of parents to make our Carnival in the 1st term work and it did. Not only was it a very happy and relaxing event for the Bishops family, but it also raised R150 000. The PA has given R200 000 towards the Pre-Prep library: profits from fund raising have covered the costs of all the fittings in what is a really delightful space for the Pre-Prep boys.

The PA also provide the non-perishable ingredients for the St Paulís breakfast programme which feeds those children arriving at school without having had breakfast, approximately 350 a day, half of the total number of pupils. The Committee purchase and deliver these every three weeks. We also remain in touch with the school regarding their library and its use in the school.

Our recent Civvies Day collection of second hand clothing for the Imizama Yethu community in Hout Bay showed great generosity on the part of our families. There really was very little standing space in the library for those few days. Clothing had to be sorted and packed and again parents, staff and boys gave of their time very willingly to do this.

So, a big thank you to the PA Committee and all our volunteers. It is certainly noticed and appreciated. Above all, is a great example for our boys.

Kind regards
