Dear Parents

It is always wonderful to feel the new school year slowly starting up.  Firstly, with boys meeting their new Form teachers for the year, lessons starting and Grade 3s adjusting to the campus.  Ensemble rehearsals are in full swing and soon we will have the first Wednesday morning music concert.

Grade 4s, for the first time, play hardball cricket in an 11-man side on a full field and the first matches in week three are always very interesting.  Similarly, they can now sign up for water polo and engage in a completely new sport.  It has been great to see your support at fixtures, cheering the boys on.  Some parents are still watching practices though – please note that this is not allowed.  The match is the activity to watch and we encourage you to be there if you can.  Boys need time at practice which is purely for them and their coaches.

Last year I sent out a communique from the Principal regarding sport.  We had decided to send it to the Prep-Prep this year, so Grade 3 parents would not have seen it yet.  Here is the link. It is a very important document, so please do read it.

It was a real pleasure to wake up to the sound of rain today.

Our Youth Pastor, Justin Woolls, spoke to us in Assembly today about each one of us having stewardship of God’s creation, the earth. He related this then to our current water shortage, talking to the school about both how we can so easily waste water but also find ways to save water, the latter being so essential at the minute.

Mr Woolls has asked the boys to monitor and record how much water their family is saving each day.  For example, if a bucket is used when showering, each family member is saving a few litres of water.  The boys work out how much water is saved and record it on a data sheet for the next 10 days, starting this Monday.  Could you please print out the form in this link and remind your son to complete it each day.  Where there are brothers, they must do only one together.  At the end of the 10 days, we will collate all the information and work out how much we are saving as a community of 380 boys and their families.

We hope in doing this to encourage our boys to be as water-wise as possible and to grow their awareness of the need to use our resources sparingly and in a sustainable way.

Kind regards
