Prep Sport

Bishops believes that sport plays a vital role in the all-round education of every boy and believes in the value of participation in team sports. Tours take place regularly. Boys have Physical Education lessons during class hours and they are expected to do a minimum of 2 afternoons of sport per week. Boys are encouraged to participate in more than one sport each season.

In the summer terms, cricket, water polo, swimming, tennis and athletics are offered. All boys participate in Inter-House athletics and swimming during the 1st Term. In the winter terms, we offer rugby, hockey, squash and cross country. Judo and fencing are offered privately at the School.

Grade 3 boys participate in cricket, rugby, hockey, swimming and soccer as extra–mural activities. Mini-cricket matches take place on Tuesday afternoons in the summer, with rugby matches on Saturday mornings, in the winter.

Pre Prep Sport

Bishops is well known for its sport.  However it is introduced slowly at the Pre-Prep with the emphasis on general physical development, the acquisition of rudimentary skills and, above all, enjoyment and participation.  Break times will always see many boys running across the fields busy with their own games of cricket, rugby and so on.

Please use the links in the side bar to learn more about each sport offered at Bishps Pre-Prep.

In addition to school sport, the following paid extra-murals are on offer all year round:

  • listening for information and enjoyment where students are encouraged to respond appropriately and critically in a wide range of situations
  • ClayStation
  • Golf
  • Judo
  • Playball
  • Tennis
  • Young Engineers

Sports Performance And Wellness Programme

Bishops created a programme that launched in 2020, SPW. The Sports Performance and Wellness programme, aims to achieve a holistic development of the boys by addressing their conditioning, performance, wellness, rehab, and injury management. The programme focuses on developing gross motor skills and hand-eye coordination at the Pre-Prep, which progresses to a more specialised conditioning programme that targets high-performance sports development and promotes general wellness at the College. Please see below to view in detail the management of the SPW.
