Through play, investigation and directed activities using concrete apparatus and more abstract charts the boys are guided towards learning about numbers, operations and the relationship between them. We encourage enjoyment of Mathematics by using different methodologies and engender confidence in each boy’s own ability by encouraging them to develop their own strategies for working with number, ensuring that they develop the ability to communicate mathematically, work cooperatively towards solving problems and make correct use of mathematical terminology and symbols.
It is understood that learning of Numeracy cannot be rushed and that learning takes place at a different pace for each boy and through different opportunities. Teaching is therefore structured to meet these needs.
